The EMF, (Electro-magnetic Field) debate goes on and on. Its parallel to the '70s and '80s with the smoking and nicotine struggle. - And the resistance remained very high in that field for many years as well.
The same situation applies to carcinogenic diseases being caused by EMFs. But the battle with the suppliers of electricity is much harder. Inhaling smoke is a deliberate, 'I know what I am doing' act, and we can see the smoke, smell the smoke, and cough on the smoke. While on the other hand, leaning over a hot stove, receiving above 3 milligauss or higher of electromagnetic energy from the elements onto the breast region, is not detected by the five senses. Only the radiant heat is. But any magnetic field over 1.5 or 2 milligauss is threatenning to ones health, so the experts tell us.
Herein lies the problem. Experts tend to be shot down by other experts, and the public simply says, Bah!, they can't agree, so why bother? Unlike electrocution, it doesn't stop us dead in our tracks,- that happens later.
Actually, if we all excercised common sense, we would say, O.K., there's a strong chance of a risk to my health here, so in the meantime, I'll take all precautions until this debate is resolved. Unlike smoking, I don't have to worry about an addiction to EMF, I'll get someone in with the necessary equipment to check out my and my family's environment , pinpoint any threatening sites, and see what can be done to avoid them. - Not enough people do that.
An Inexpensive Check for Peace of Mind
For some time now my business has been checking homes, shops and offices and factories and cowsheds with a high quality gauss meter, and voltmeter, and it didn't take long for me to realise that many people (and animals) were working or relaxing or sitting or sleeping in areas of what is considered to be excessive EMF.Avoidance is often a very simple adjustment, like, moving a chair half a metre away or shifting a voltage regulator across the floor a short distance or moving the bedside clock and table another 30 centemetres away from the bed, ---and consequently, your head.
The wearing of quartz crystals and placing coils of wire in bedrooms etc., with the belief that the EMF will be divested of its harmful effect, is not my style. This is a practical problem and I deal with it in practical ways.
Especially for Dairy Farmers
Dairy herds are particularly vulnerable to all forms of electrical contact and exposure in the cowshed, and the problems are usually worse in the dry summer months, which is contrary to what most folk would expect.
Cows are far more sensitive to electricity and electromagnetic fields than humans are. Electrical contact through the milking cups can introduce spikes, electric shocks, and sustained induction of 50 cycle shock.Stray Electricity, Spikes and Electromagnetic Feild Problems in Cowsheds.
Most dairy farmers will relate to some of these problems.
(1) I have experienced situations where cows had to be virtually pushed in under the eves of the shed.
(2) Where several cows kicked the cups off simultaneously.
(3) Where cows kicked and fidgetted more than usual, particularly when the cups were being put on.
(4) Where cows were reluctant to step from one concrete section of the yard onto another.
(5) Where cows dried off earlier in the season in spite of there being still plenty of feed in the paddocks.
(6) Where there was excessive amounts of cow manure in and around the pit after milking.
(7) Where mastitis was a severe problem.
All these problems are most often electricity related, and most are not expensive to fix.
However, obviously, there can be other reasons for some of these problems and I am qualified to investigate and make a sound assessment where other factors relating to the milking plant, for instance, are involved.
I do the full investigation myself and explain the details of the problem personally on site, as well as present a written report of my findings by post to the farmer.
