To accept this as even remotely likely, is unbelievable.

One of the problems facing science is that if there was no containment and if there are galaxies at infinite distances beyond the 13.7 billion light-year boundary, we would be faced with a solid wall of light, just as we are faced with a solid wall of trees when we look into a forest, even when we also observe that the trees are 20 feet apart.

Then what is the real answer? To suggest that the universe is infinite in size is to 'come up against a brick wall' - of blinding light.

But, I wonder if the answer lies in the red shift characteristic. Could it be that at a certain distance radiated energy changes to something else?

The greater the distance from its source the longer the redshift, so imagine that these rays, in order to remain intact over visible distances are held together by a carrier wave,. The total loss of any one of its components over that critical distance of 13 billion light years, may cause it to fragment into subatomic particles or turn into atomic and molecular hydrogen, (dark matter). This would explain the presence of both these hydrogen forms throughout space, (not explained). It may also explain the cause of background radiation. (also not explained other than its presence is used to support Big Bang). Hydrogen is found right throughout space and is sucked into growing nebula wherever they are. Both atomic and molecular hydrogen must be being replenished by a source that penetrates space as a whole and this would mean that the light we see from distant radiant objects is not complete by the time it gets here, just as light from the sun at sunset is affected in the same way.

I feel that Big Bang only exists through our lack of knowledge, and there are thousands of folk out there who will agree with that. We do not 'know it all', and those who believe that they do, should stand back and admit that we have a duty to look for a better understanding of the cosmos, its workings, and its existence. "We don't know" is a more honourable response until we have the means of finding out. Meantime let's keep working on it with an open mind, because we have a lot to gain and nothing much to lose.
